Telegram Devices and How to Log Out
Learn how to view all devices signed in to a Telegram account, end unknown sessions, log out on each platform and understand what inactivity means for your account.
Using One Telegram Account on Multiple Devices
Telegram lets a single account be active on several devices at the same time. Cloud chats are synchronized automatically, so every message appears on each logged‑in client. This makes it possible to continue conversations when you switch from phone to tablet or computer.
Telegram can be used on smartphones, tablets and computers, and Telegram Web exists for quick tasks on the go.
Where to See Every Active Device
Open Settings and choose Devices, or go to Privacy and Security and select Active Sessions. This list shows every place where the account is signed in, and a session can be ended there.
If you notice a device you do not recognise, end its session from this list. Regularly checking it helps you verify that only your own devices are connected.
Ending a Session You Do Not Recognise
Select the unknown session in the Active Sessions view and choose the option to end it. Ending one session does not sign out your other devices.
If you later want to use that device again, you have to sign in anew. Telegram sends login codes to the service notifications chat named "Telegram" (or by SMS); a login code should never be shared with anyone.
Logging Out on Different Platforms and What Is Kept
On iOS, open Settings, tap Edit, and then choose Log out. On Android and Telegram Desktop, open Settings, tap the menu in the top right corner, and select Log out. Logging out does not delete the account.
Logging out keeps all cloud messages. Secret Chats on that device, and all messages inside them, are lost, so check that nothing in a secret chat is still needed before you log out.
What Happens When an Account Is Inactive
Telegram closes an account that has not come online for at least 18 months. The period can be changed in Settings if you prefer a shorter or longer one.
Coming online before that period ends keeps the account open. Choosing a period that matches how often you use Telegram helps make sure the account is not closed while you still need it.
Secure Your Account After Receiving It
After you receive a Telegram account, switch on Two‑Step Verification under Settings → Privacy and Security → Two‑Step Verification and set a strong password. Once it is on, signing in needs the login code and the password.
For a complete checklist, refer to the existing guide titled "Keeping a Telegram Account Secure After You Receive It". That guide explains how to protect the TDATA folder or session files, how to review active sessions, and what never to share with anyone, including @fauqes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I stay signed in on both my phone and my computer at the same time?
Yes, Telegram synchronizes cloud chats across all devices that are logged in, so you can use phone, tablet, desktop or Web simultaneously.
What information does the Devices list show for each session?
It shows every place where the account is signed in, and each of those sessions can be ended from the same list.
If I log out from a device, will my secret chats disappear?
Yes. Logging out keeps all cloud messages, but Secret Chats on that device, and all messages inside them, are lost.
How can I prevent Telegram from closing my account due to inactivity?
Come online on any device before 18 months pass, or change the inactivity period in Settings to one that suits how you use Telegram.
Is it safe to share my login code with anyone for verification?
No. Telegram login codes should never be shared; @fauqes also never asks for them, and sharing them can compromise your account.
